I owe every one of you out there some explanation or story
at least. I would like to do a little unveiling on how the idea came to life.
Just like i’ve worked on different projects (Software development), i have
always had an idea that i wanted to try out in the Nigerian market. It’s
CROWDFUNDING. It’s not exactly a new idea but relatively new in Nigeria/Africa
and i thought someday i could try it out. The idea was quite simple: If people
could give so little that it doesn’t come off as a burden or major expense to
them while doing it at the comfort of whatever location they find themselves,
the sky would directly above our heads. All we’d just have to do is work on the
numbers and make sure as many as possible hear about it with an ‘un-doubtable’
reason to get involved. Social networks and other existing tools had solved the
problems of reaching out to people around the world but a major challenge
remained. PAYMENT SOLUTIONS
I envisioned a situation where people at the very minimum
use a mobile phone to give as little as 100 naira without hassle. Yes, a few
mobile payment solutions are coming up but none have really gone as far as
you’d want to capitalise on. But i noticed something.... far more than ¾ of all
payments made where from bank transfers online. It was amazing to know this
idea could work from now.
...THE MAIN BEGINNINGS
After i came across baby Kelechi, i thought about attaching
a brand that people could reckon with. I came up with CauseFundr from ‘Cause’
and ‘Funder’. The domain name www.causefunder.com
was taken so i had to lose the ‘e’. I wanted something in the name to connect
to the purpose of it that’s what the word ‘cause’ does. I originally tried names
like ‘1reason’, ‘a-reason’ but i didn’t pretty much have time to think. I had
to quickly hack the website, took the kids pictures with my blackberry and put
it up.
Like i said earlier, that's how we got here. There is a future and you are going to be part of it. Let's make baby Kelechi's surgery happen and we'd move from there.
